2024 Year in Review

This has been a heck of year, and at least at a personal level, it's been pretty amazing across the board.

Travel:

Did a lot of travel this year. Had my first date week with my wife since pre-children. We went to the English countryside for a week, and it was truly incredible. It was our first international travel, and we neeeeed to get back there.

Wrapping up the personal side of travel, we did some travel to visit family in PA and VA over the summer and winter, and that was nice seeing everyone.

From the business side of things, a lot of trips to Utah, Ohio, and Tennessee. Probably will be more of the same over this year.

Kids:

Well, they're now 6, 5, and 2, and more fun every day. All of them keep me on my toes but in different ways.

6 is apparently lifting the rest of his class to his level when he asks questions like "well, aren't there negative numbers too?"

5 is still super shy at school, but has absolute confidence at home. Very artistic and engineering focused.

2 has found her voice, and I don't think she stops talking except to sleep. Knows all her shapes, colors, numbers, letters, and now we just wait for her to put them together.

Wife:

Wife is doing amazing with her business. She just keeps building and expanding, and I think she's really going places. She's also working on her Masters in Business, which is hella cool.

Me:

Things for me are going nicely. I've hit a good rhythm at work, and gearing up for the next year of projects and stuff there.

College at WGU seems to be working well for me. I'm not moving through quite as fast as I would like, but at the same time, I'm doing alright for the amount of other stuff I have going on in life.

Projects-wise, been working on my Proton * move from O365 Business, and a general declouding overall. That's gone well though I did have to resubscribe to office apps because libreoffice calc is NOT an excel replacement.

Somehow managed to get c-diff twice. That was, less than ideal.

Movies:

I uh, don't think I watched an actual movie this year.

TV:

Finished off Lower Decks (zomg so good, why did it have to end???) and What We Do In the Shadows (zomg I get why it ended, but at least it ended well).

Got into the Legend of Vox Machina. That was really solid, and I'm looking forward to the next season.

Also watched my first anime in a long time. Delicious in Dungeon is really really good. Good enough I bought the first manga. Which I've never done. Also really good!

My wife and I got really into Children Ruin Everything. It's probably the most honest look at parenthood on TV. Highly recommended.

I think that's about it for my TV watching this year. Anything else I watched wasn't really good enough for me to give any callouts to, or I didn't finish a full season yet and I don't wanna put my name on it. :)

Games:

Oooh boy. I got big into Dave the Diver (still need to go back and complete all the fishing). Also did a full POE season. ZOMG. I still love it.

Warhammer Boltgun taught me very quickly humility.

Warhammer Rogue Trader was AMAZING. Loved every minute of it. Waiting for the second DLC to come out, and then I'm taking another run at it.

Books:

I read more trash scifi on amazon. Nothing SUPER stood out, but I really need to update my goodreads (or bookwyrm) as nothing really sticks out in my mind.

Conclusion:

All in all, a really good year at a PERSONAL level.

I'm going to try to do my 2025 goals post BEFORE the end of 2025. We shall see how that goes.
